New ACI Shipment Types & Validation

Posted 11/2/2018

CBSA introduced changes to the ACI Portal on October 28, 2018 creating new cargo movement types for Highway Carriers & Freight Forwarders.  There are three different movement types: Import, In-bond and In-transit.  Import movement declarations are for shipments designated to clear customs at the First Port of Arrival.  In-bond movements are for shipments Carriers & Freight Forwarders intend to move in-bond and clear customs at inland ports where as In-transit shipments are for shipments traveling in-bond through Canada.  In addition to these changes CBSA has also introduced validations designed to ensure the sub-location codes (i.e. warehouse facility or port facility location code) carriers report on their shipments are properly associated with the sub-location's port code.  Shipment declarations where port & associated sub-location codes don't match will be rejected by CBSA.

CBSA announced the changes in message number TCC18-142 and provided additional clarification in message TCC18-142 Update.
