Some carriers are starting to incur delays due to the implementation of another phase of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FMSA).  The Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) of the FSMA requires customs brokers to supply the Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Number System (DUNS) for the importer identification under the provisions of the FSVP.  Some customs brokers may not have captured this information within their systems leading to the delay.  A fact sheet related to FSVP can be found on the FDA website.  Some carriers are requesting shippers include the importer's DUNS number on their customs documentation to address these potential delays.
